How does it work?<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>A team of students from <strong>WSB Merito University<\/strong> in Warsaw and Pozna\u0144 has created an intelligent rescue wristband. The invention is designed to help clinicians quickly assess the condition of many casualties at once. Called the <strong>Smart Triage Tag<\/strong>, the device targets mass-casualty incidents but also Emergency Departments, where staff shortages are common.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How does it work? Once placed on a patient\u2019s wrist, the band monitors vital signs. It measures <strong>heart rate<\/strong>, <strong>blood-oxygen saturation<\/strong> and <strong>ECG<\/strong>. Data flows to clinicians via an app, letting them track many patients simultaneously \u2014 even at a distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a patient deteriorates, the <strong>band immediately changes colour and triggers an alarm<\/strong>. A major advantage is its <strong>low cost<\/strong> to make and service (standard, widely available tools suffice). The device does not require integration with advanced hospital equipment. It is also <strong>scalable<\/strong> \u2014 new functions can be added, and roll-outs can expand across more patients and facilities with different profiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Curious? <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/holistic.news\/en\/crystal-of-light-could-change-data-transfer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Knotted light could reshape how we encode information.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the smart triage wristband raises the bar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The invention by Polish students aims to help medical staff triage many casualties <strong>accurately and fast<\/strong>. Until now, the order of care has often relied on a clinician\u2019s <strong>subjective<\/strong> and sometimes incomplete assessment. This could change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students from Pozna\u0144 and Warsaw have already scored a win \u2014 they took the national stage of the prestigious <strong>James Dyson Award<\/strong> and received a <strong>PLN 25,000<\/strong> grant. The money will fund further development and volunteer testing. On <strong>5 November 2025<\/strong>, they will compete in the international final, where <strong>PLN 150,000<\/strong> is at stake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To win, the team must outperform entries from <strong>28 countries<\/strong> and two other Polish projects: an intelligent water-quality monitoring and alerting system, and <strong>Silent Box<\/strong>, a kind of \u201cpersonal quiet zone\u201d that suppresses city noise for calmer living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s worth noting that a similar life-monitoring wristband was deployed in <strong>Kalisz<\/strong> in <strong>2022<\/strong>, when city authorities provided <strong>tele-bands<\/strong> to <strong>111<\/strong> seniors. Those devices also monitor residents and enable rapid response when vital functions worsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners will be chosen by <strong>James Dyson<\/strong> \u2014 the renowned inventor and founder of the household-technology company. We will learn the results on <strong>5 November<\/strong>. Regardless of the outcome, this wristband could reshape emergency care in Poland. In <strong>2024<\/strong>, there were <strong>over 21,000<\/strong> road accidents in Poland, in which <strong>nearly 2,000<\/strong> people died.
